Checklist when returning to your home country
Returning to your country after living in Colombia means closing cycles in an orderly way: contracts, accounts, taxes and moving. This list helps you leave nothing pending.
Housing
Notify the landlord within the contract period, schedule handover with an inventory and recover your deposit. Take photos of the final condition and keep the utilities clearance.
Utilities and contracts
Cancel internet, mobile, gym and subscriptions. Get written confirmation of each cancellation and pay the last bill.
Banking
Decide what to do with your accounts: close or keep them. If closing, transfer balances and remove linked products. If keeping, ask about management fees.
Taxes and documents
Check with an accountant whether you must file or close your RUT. Gather certificates and records, and apostille the documents you need in your country.
Immigration
Report your departure as applicable to your visa type, and check any residence or cancellation requirements. Guidance via Colombia Visa Legal.
Moving and pets
Quote shipping, customs and health requirements in advance, especially if travelling with pets.
