Dynamic keys and banks

Many Colombian banks require a second authentication factor for online operations. It is known as a dynamic key, token or security code. For a foreigner who has just opened an account, understanding it prevents lockouts.

What it is

A temporary code generated in the bank's app, on a physical device or by text message that confirms it is you performing the operation.

How it is activated

It is normally activated from the bank's app with your ID, mobile number and email. Some banks require a branch visit or identity validation with a selfie.

Common problems for foreigners

- A foreign mobile number that does not receive local messages. - Changing phones without deactivating the key on the old device. - Roaming disabled, which prevents receiving codes. Keep an active, updated Colombian number for your banking procedures.

Security

Never share the code with anyone, not even people claiming to be from the bank. Banks do not ask for keys by phone or message. If you suspect fraud, block your products from the app and call the official line.

Frequently asked questions

No. Never share keys or codes.
