School calendar for families
Planning the arrival of a family with children requires knowing the Colombian school calendar. There are two models and several key dates to keep clear.
Calendar A and B
- Calendar A: February to November, with mid-year break (June–July) and year-end break (December–January). It is used by most public schools and many private ones.
- Calendar B: August or September to June, used by many bilingual and international schools, with long breaks June–August.
Important dates
Enrolments and re-enrolments usually open months before classes begin. Education secretariats publish official calendars each year; verify them at the source.
Arriving mid-year
If you arrive outside the intake dates, some schools accept students during the year if there is space. Ask about grade validation and placement tests.
Tuition and fees
Private schools charge enrolment, monthly tuition and sometimes transport, meals and activity fees. Ask for the detail in writing and the payment schedule.
Frequently asked questions

Sometimes, subject to space and the school's assessment.
