Colombia for Digital Nomads 2026: Visa, Income and Practical Requirements
Colombia’s Digital Nomad Visa (Visa V) remains one of the most generous in the region (up to 2 years). But the 2026 minimum-wage increase raised the income threshold. Here is the updated reality.
2026 minimum income
3 × SMMLV ≈ COP $5.25 million per month (~USD 1,400). Must be met in each of the last 3 months (no averaging).
Who can apply?
Foreigners who work remotely exclusively for companies or clients outside Colombia, or who develop a digital/IT project of interest to Colombia. Receiving remuneration from Colombian-domiciled companies or individuals is not permitted under this category.
Key 2026 requirements
- Bank statements for the last 3 months showing net income ≥ 3 SMMLV each month
- Passport from a nationality exempt from short-stay visa requirements (in most cases)
- Employer letter or contracts proving remote work
- Medical assistance plan covering accident, illness, hospitalization, disability, maternity, repatriation and death for the full validity period (Resolution 5477)
- Motivational letter (especially for digital entrepreneurs)
Practical warnings
Cancillería does not average income. If one month falls below the threshold, the application can be denied even if the average is high. Bank statements are the primary document; invoices or accountant letters do not replace them.
Many applicants report increased scrutiny in 2025-2026. Applying from abroad (consulate) is generally safer than attempting to change from tourist status inside Colombia.
