Check-Mig Colombia: what it is, when to fill it, and what happens if you skip it
Check-Mig is Colombia’s pre-arrival immigration form. It is not a visa. It is the step before control: traveler data, flight and purpose. Filling it wrong or late is the first friction point for people arriving.
What it is (and is not)
An electronic form from Migración Colombia. It does not grant stay by itself. The officer at the airport defines the permit based on nationality, stamp and current rules.
When to fill it
Before boarding, with margin. Do not wait at the airline counter with no signal. If you have a connection, confirm whether Check-Mig applies to your Colombia entry leg.
Common mistakes
- Passport data that does not match the physical document.
- Invented or incomplete address in Colombia.
- Travel purpose that differs from what you will say at control.
Relation to visas
If you already hold a visa, Check-Mig does not replace it. If you enter as a tourist, it does not turn entry into residence. For longer plans: from tourist to expat.
