Visa runs in Colombia: why “leave and come back” stops working

A short hop to Panama or Ecuador to “reset” tourist days is not a residence plan. Immigration sees patterns: repeated exits, same purpose, same address. The risk is not an internet meme — it is a refused entry or a shorter stamp.

What a visa run is

Leaving shortly before the entry permit ends and returning for another tourist stamp without changing real life: same lease, same remote job, same partner.

Why it fails

• Control assesses intent to stay, not only the passport in hand.
• 90/180-type limits are not wiped by a weekend abroad.
• Declaring tourism while living and earning from Colombia is inconsistent.

What to do instead
