Colombia Tourism 2026: What International Travelers Need to Know
After years of growth, non-resident visitor flows slowed in 2025 and early 2026. Colombia remains a major regional destination. Here is the essential information for arrivals.
Recent figures
According to MinCIT and Migración Colombia, non-resident visitors fell from a peak of over 7 million in 2024 to around 6 million in 2025 (approx. 15% decline). In the first half of 2026 foreign card spending exceeded USD 1.28 billion. The United States remains the main source market.
Entry requirements
- Valid passport (recommended minimum 6 months)
- Visa-exempt nationalities: up to 90 days (extendable in many cases up to 180 days in the year)
- International travel insurance strongly recommended
- Proof of funds and onward travel may be requested
Immigration controls
El Dorado Airport has expanded modules and biometric systems to reduce wait times. Status checks inside the country have become more visible in 2026.
If you plan to stay longer
Do not use tourist status to reside or work. Regularization routes (digital nomad, investor, family, etc.) require a visa and, in most cases, a Resolution 5477 medical assistance plan.
